How to use the blueprint
The Body of Knowledge identifies examinable concepts. The Exam Blueprint explains section coverage and the possible range of questions. Treat those documents as the source of truth. A study site can organise learning differently, but it should not claim a different published structure.
- Download the current IAPP materials from the CIPP/US certification page.
- Create a checklist of every blueprint area.
- Link each free lesson or practice result to that checklist.
- Review gaps before taking a mixed timed set.
- Recheck the IAPP certification page before scheduling the exam.
What the format does not tell you
The format does not reveal secure questions, a fixed passing raw score or a guaranteed topic sequence. IAPP states that its questions are secure. Independent questions can help with retrieval and legal reasoning, but they cannot predict the live test.
Use this page with the study plan
Read the CIPP/US study plan after mapping the blueprint. Then use the CIPP/US exam questions guide to practice the scope method.
Answer in brief
IAPP currently lists 90 CIPP/US multiple-choice questions in 2.5 hours. Read the IAPP CIPP/US certification page.
Apply this decision
Before booking, map every published knowledge area to a lesson and a question set, then add review time for the least familiar area. Read the source context.
Common mistake
Treating the published question count as a fixed allocation for each topic rather than planning with the current blueprint.

Use the published CIPP/US coverage documents
The current CIPP/US Body of Knowledge and Exam Blueprint describe five study areas and the expected question ranges for each one.
Practical example
Map every study area to a free lesson and a question set, then give additional review time to the least familiar legal domain.
Common mistake
Treating the question count as a fixed allocation for every topic rather than using the current blueprint ranges to plan coverage.

Domain allocation table
The current blueprint gives a minimum and maximum question range for each domain. Version 2.6.1 took effect on 1 September 2025.
| Domain | Expected questions |
|---|---|
| Domain I. The U.S. privacy environment | 27 to 33 |
| Domain II. Federal privacy laws | 15 to 19 |
| Domain III. Government and court access to private-sector information | 3 to 5 |
| Domain IV. Workplace privacy | 4 to 6 |
| Domain V. State privacy laws | 17 to 21 |
The ranges are planning boundaries, not a promise that every sitting will use the same distribution.
